WE ARE THE LAND
CITY OF PORTLAND

The Goal
INDÍGENA addressed a significant challenge for Native people living in Portland: the city desires to foster dialogue between tribes and their representatives, but lacks the know-how to initiate those conversations or create that space.
“We Are The Land”
Collaborating with photographer Josué Rivas, we aimed to bridge the representation gap by publicly celebrating portraits of our local Indigenous community and their deep connection to Portland.

SOLUTIONS
1] Conversation:
Indigenous People’s Day: Successfully passed both City & County’s proclamation honoring and celebrating the many contributions made by Indigenous peoples throughout the community.
2] Representation
By showcasing Indigenous portraiture across the city, Portland can provide opportunity for visibility to its original people and begin a conversation that’s been long overdue.
3] Community
Provided education and access for local businesses and foundations, connecting and growing Native advocacy groups.
